The number of jobs in the field of dental assisting is growing throughout the country as researchers have become increasingly aware of the link between oral care and general health. The number of dental assistant jobs in Nevada is projected to increase 8% between 2012 and 2022 according to the state’s Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation.

The average 2014 dental assistant salary in Nevada for experienced professionals representing the 90th percentile was $46,114. The average salary was $36,190 a year, while entry-level dental assistants representing the 10th percentile earned $26,832 a year on average.

In Nevada’s metropolitan areas, dental assistants had the highest average salaries in the Carson City and Reno areas. Carson City also had the highest salary for experienced dental assistants:
Nevada’s Dental Assistant Job Growth Projections
Nearly three quarters of the 2,790 dental assistants employed in Nevada as of 2014 were located in the Las Vegas area. Only 16.4% were in the Reno area and 2.7% in the Carson City area.
Seventy percent of the 80 new dental assistant jobs expected to become available in the next few years will be in the Las Vegas area. Most of these new jobs will come from the need to replace dental assistants who will leave the field.
On a percentage basis, job growth is projected to be much higher in the Carson City and Reno areas than the state as a whole. Carson City is expected to see a 16% increase in the number of jobs, while job growth in the Reno area is projected to be 10.9%.
